The New Jersey Warehousemen and Movers Association is administered by an Executive Director and guided by an elected Board of Directors. Each board member volunteers their time to assist in the association. All expenses incurred by a board member comes directly out of that members pocket.

All members in good standing are listed on our exclusive consumer website that lists companies by geographic location. We check the staus of their license from the NJ Division of Consumer Affairs for a current license. The consumer is free to browse the listings of movers without being overwhelmed with unwanted calls and emails.

Personal Assistance
By phone, fax, or e-mail to help members with the complicated rules and regulations of the moving and storage industry issued by state and federal authorities.

Government Regulations
Only NJWMA members have the inside track on government initiatives which effect "bottom line" profitability. NJWMA has worked to form coalitions with other groups creating a strong presence on the state and federal level. The foremost function the NJWMA performs for all industry members is monitoring the activity of Office of Consumer Protection, Division of Consumer Affairs,  and working to protect the rights of the legal licensed mover.  The NJWMA is a member of or works very closely with the following groups.

NJWMA Publications, Bulletins, and Web Site
Only NJWMA Members receive the monthly newsletter "On The Move". The newsletter keeps members informed about up-to-the minute, local and national issues that impact you and your business. It is also your link to other member companies, keeping you informed of trends and developments within our industry. Currently, a copy of "On the Move" is sent to state representatives, other associations and interested parties, thereby opening a channel of communication between moving professionals and the government decision makers that affect all of us. Our sister organization, the New Jersey Movers Tariff Bureau offers a uniform, copyrighted tariff which is easy to use and formulate.

Also included is an annual Directory listing every member mover in the state of New Jersey.

Important industry changes are sent to members by broadcast, fax, e-mail, regular mail, and within our monthly newsletter.

Our web site is exclusive to only our members, giving the consumer who needs a mover insight on how to choose a mover and other pitfalls in using a non licensed mover.

The membership directory is included in our web site, as well as a listing of over 60 vendors that are members of NJWMA.

Public Relations
Association Website at www.njmovers.com helps consumers make informed choices about selecting a mover.

Also available are advertisements by Associate Members in our monthly publication "On the Move" which helps to promote and generate business for our vendors.

Industry Promotion and Public Relations
NJWMA members benefit from the association's comprehensive program to improve the image of the moving industry. From its Code of Ethics and helpful marketing tips to its on-going public relations activity, the NJWMA is working hard to ensure the public will choose a respected member of the NJWMA for their moving needs.

Yellow Page Advertising
The association works hard to successfully persuade the Yellow Pages to advertise only legal and licensed movers. We are in the process of working with the state to disconnect the telephone service of moving companies operating illegally in New Jersey.  

Scholarship and Awards
Only NJWMA member drivers are eligible for the Driver of the Year Award. The NJWMA has also created a scholarship fund to further the education of eligible member employees and their families.

Accomplishments
In the past the Association has implemented a Workmen's Compensation program and is now formulating a health program. The Association worked with the New Jersey Department of Labor to formalize the trucking industry's exemption to overtime after 40 hours for drivers, mechanics and helpers. The Association assisted in bringing back sales tax exemption for trucks, parts and leasing. The Association is working to implement legislation to allow 18 year old drivers with CDL's to work on intra-state operations. The Association has established a presence on the Internet for all members and associates.

Tariff Bureau
Members are informed when tariff changes should be made.
Individualized assistance regarding compliance with state rules and regulations. Copyrighted professional tariff format to follow. Our tariff bureau files your tariff changes directly with the State Division of Consumer Affairs.

Legislative Watchdog Service
NJWMA monitors actions of state and federal lawmakers. Our
participation insures that your voice is heard when laws are enacted.

Complaint Resolution
NJWMA files complaints of illegal moving activities. We also respond to consumer complaints against our members and recommend member companies to consumers.

 

Relationship with Division of Consumer Affairs
We work closely with the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs in order to provide fair licensing standards and practices to established movers as well as newcomers to the industry.

Encourage and participate in enforcement recommendations against "bandit" movers and illegal activities of some "less-than-professional" licensed movers.

 

Help to ensure that warehouse rules and regulations are intact, so that both consumers and movers/warehousemen benefit.
